If you have plans to change the world — for the better — you’ll need a team of thinkers, creators, innovators and leaders to help you. If you’re not sure where to find these people, you’re in luck. There’s one organization that’s stacked with people: ready willing and actively changing the world. One of them happens to be a Poet and he has a really neat story!

Wilson Amooro, also known as “Wilson the Poet” is a creative entrepreneur who isn’t shy when it comes to standing up for planet earth. And, if you like love letters, you’ll definitely appreciate his penmanship — more on that later. In the meantime, if you haven’t heard of Wilson’s amazing life, let’s quickly bring you up to speed.

Young entrepreneurs ‘stuffed’ with vision

For starters, Wilson Amooro serves as an ambassador for the Ye! Community, a global network of young entrepreneurs spearheading a movement to change the world. These entrepreneurs are driven by their desire to help other young entrepreneurs overcome unique challenges in their countries. As for Wilson, he’s bringing about BIG change, right where he lives in Western Ghana.

If you’ve visited Wilson’s social media profiles, it’s likely you came across a giant ‘dead whale’ stuffed with plastic. Well, it’s not actually a whale. It’s a life-sized sculpture of a beach whale stuffed with plastic. For Wilson, that sculpture is a reminder of the unbridled power of plastic and he’s got pretty lofty goals to do something about it.

Global worthy goals

Both Wilson and the organization he’s a part of — Ye! Community — are all about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To explain it simply, the SDGs provide a path to achieving a better and more sustainable future for the entire planet. These goals mean addressing global challenges related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice. And here’s how Wilson Amooro fits into the SDGS…

Thriving off books

Nearly five years ago, Wilson Amooro started Trash4BooksGhana with a vision to see his nation transformed into an eco-friendly place. Trash4Books promotes innovative approaches to spreading the importance of global and environmental sustainability while encouraging everyday people to read more books.

While Wilson is all about promoting a healthier earth, he’s a strong global advocate for the physical health of all human-kind. And get this, he’s a registered nurse who’s doing a lot of good on behalf of the Kologo Health Center, earning him the name “village doctor”. Pretty cool huh!

Let’s get creative

Sure, Wilson loves the earth and helping the sick, but as you can imagine, his work doesn’t end there. In fact, when he’s not championing global sustainability, he writes. And he’s written several books already.

If love letters are your thing, Amooro wrote a book full of them (Love Letters Volume 1). If you prefer football, he’s got a book about that too: (Football Game Versus Life). Maybe you’re a kid at heart and you like toy trains; yep, he wrote a book on that too (Ole’ 49)! In fact, he has worked with youth in his local community to encourage them to express themselves through writing. Using his connections, Wilson published a collection of poems and stories all written by the local schoolchildren in Bolgatanga. Talk about inspirational!

And get this, there’s more to Amooro than just pen and paper. He has a special place in his heart for trees. But not in the way you may think.

There is no tree too tall

Transformation Recycle Education Eco-music (TREE) is a start-up program led by Wilson and other young entrepreneurs. TREE encourages children to keep their environments clean while promoting the life benefits of listening to and learning classical music. Don't take our word for it. Today, TREE continues to grow and bring harmony into the lives of children throughout West Africa.

Ye! for young entreprneurs!

If you thought Wilson's time couldn't get any busier, think again. Wilson also works as the Ye! Ambassador for Bolgatanga, Ghana. In his role, he brings together young entrepreneurs by organizing events and activities where they can learn from one another, connect to experts, and grow their enterprises. He played a key role in organizing the Ghana Youth Entrepreneurship Convention in Accra, Ghana, where members of his local Ye! Chapter as well as young entrepreneurs from across the country came together to listen, learn, connect, and grow their ventures.

Wilson continues to grow the local Ye! Chapter and inspire other youth to join the Ye! Community to access all the resources it has to offer.

What’s next?

Like many, you’re probably wondering… what’s left for Wilson to do? Whale, it’s a BIG world. And in Wilson’s own words, “My daily aspiration is to inspire others before I expire.”
